David Beckham’s youngest sons, Romeo and Cruz, aren’t allowing the family’s reported drama keep them from celebrating their father’s newfound royal title.
“I’m so proud of you, Dad, I love you,” Cruz, 20, wrote via his Instagram Stories on Saturday, June 14. “Sir David Beckham has a nice ring to it!”
Romeo, 23, meanwhile, shared his own tribute to David, 50.
“So so proud of you,” Romeo added.
David and wife Victoria Beckham are parents of four. In addition to Romeo and Cruz, they also share son Brooklyn, 26, and daughter Harper, 13. Brooklyn, who is estranged from his family, did not share a celebratory tribute as of publication, while Harper does not have a social media account.
King Charles III honored the retired soccer star with a knighthood on Friday, June 13, which was listed in his annual King’s Birthday Honors list. David previously received an OBE from the monarch’s late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in 2021 and was recognized on Friday for his services to sport and charity.
“Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honor,” David said in a statement. “To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career and literally a boyhood dream come true. Off the pitch, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to represent Britain around the world and work with incredible organizations that are supporting communities in need and inspiring the next generation.”
He added, “I’m so lucky to be able to do the work that I do and I’m grateful to be recognized for work that gives me so much fulfillment. It will take a little while for the news to sink in, but I’m immensely proud and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family.”
With David’s knighthood, he will now formally be addressed as Sir David Beckham, with wife Victoria, 51, being known as Lady Victoria Beckham.
“You’ve always been my knight in shining armor, but now it’s official,” Victoria wrote via Instagram on Saturday. “What an honor, I couldn’t be prouder of you. Your dedication to the things that matter most — your country, your work, your passion, and most of all, your family — has never wavered.”
She added, “The way you’ve touched so many lives over the years with kindness and humility speaks volumes about the man you are and continues to inspire us every day. But above all else, I’m so, so proud to call you mine. I love you so much.”
David’s regal honor comes amid a difficult time for his family as Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, have distanced themselves from the brood.. Brooklyn and Nicola, 30, skipped David’s birthday party last month, and insiders previously told Us that drama stemmed from Nicola and Victoria’s clash at the actress’ 2022 wedding, though both denied the claims.
“They are done speaking about it,” a source exclusively told Us earlier this week, referring to David and Victoria. “They view it as the way it is now. The ball is in Brooklyn’s court if he wants to make up.”
A second insider, meanwhile, noted that David and Victoria haven’t extended invitations to Brooklyn and Nicola to the knighting ceremony since there is not a date on the books yet. The source did tell Us that Brooklyn and Nicola are “happy” for David about the honor.
