It wasn’t the cat’s meow for some Republicans.
Some GOP insiders are livid at 2025 mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa for cozying up to Mayor Zohran Mamdani in a cat-centric comedy skit — claiming the Guardian Angels founder “betrayed” them.
Sliwa, the red beret-wearing founder of the vigilante Guardian Angels and self-appointed guardian of Gotham’s felines, teamed up with the democratic socialist mayor in a pre-recorded video at this year’s Inner Circle show — a musical political parody for charity.
Some insiders are now claiming they should get their political donations back after the skit, which shows Sliwa giving Mamdani an allergy shot so he can finally live with a kitty at Gracie Mansion.
The skit spoofed the fact that Mamdani, who is allergic to cats, is actually getting a series of allergy shots so he and his cat-loving wife, Rama Duwajii, can bring a pet into their new mayoral digs.
But some Republicans aren’t laughing.
“When you don’t have a bed to sleep in you have to find anyone who will take you,” fumed former Gov. David Paterson. “You can tell when people are true to the party, and I thought it was reprehensible.”
Sliwa insisted his only motive was helping animals.
“I thought it was great because it was promoting rescuing animals,” he told The Post after the skit, explaining a Mamdani staffer called two weeks ago to ask if Sliwa would appear in a skit about the mayor “getting vaccinated for cats” — something Sliwa said the two political rivals actually agree on.
Still, critics blasted Sliwa’s light‑hearted theatrics as cold‑hearted betrayal.
“Betrayed his family. Betrayed the Republican Party. Betrayed everyone,” one GOP operative railed, insisting on anonymity to trash the cat lover’s cameo.
Paterson and others are still furious Sliwa refused to drop out of last fall’s weird three‑way mayoral race to clear the way for former Gov. Andrew Cuomo — who the anti-Mamdani coalition viewed as the best chance to stop him from winning.
“[Curtis] was never going to win,” Paterson fumed Sunday. “He got 7 percentage points, seven — even the Jets get seven when they play.”
The Guardian Angels founder refused to step aside and even walked out of a gig at 77 WABC radio because of pressure from hosts and owner John Catsimatidis for him to clear the path for Cuomo.
Sliwa rival Fernando Mateo — who organizes bodegas owners and ran against Sliwa in the 2021 Republican mayoral primary — said the former candidate will do anything to get media attention.
“People shouldn’t be shocked, this isn’t new and there’s likely more to come,” Mateo told The Post Sunday. “He’s a compulsive liar who constantly seeks and feeds on attention, especially from the media.”
Sliwa said his fellow GOPers were being unfair to him.
“If people are upset at that why aren’t you mad at the President Donald Trump who has welcomed him into the White House twice?” Sliwa griped.
Still, Sliwa — who is already planning to seek the GOP’s mayoral nomination for 2029 — stressed he is not close to the Democratic Socialists of America darling mayor.
“That’s the only contact I’ve had with Zohran since the election,” Sliwa said.
