Taylor Swift is known for dropping Easter eggs in her songs and leading up to new album releases — but which of her album announcements has been the most elaborate?
Swift made her music debut in 2006 with her self-titled record, but as an unknown there wasn’t much fanfare for the occasion. However, over the next two decades, the Grammy winner has become more and more creative with her rollouts.
Whether it’s a social media livestream or posting a cryptic video of a snake, Swift knows how to make a splash with her music reveals.
Nothing proved that more than making her podcast debut on boyfriend Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast in August 2025 to announce that her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, would be out later that fall.
“This is the record I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time. … It’s just right,” Swift teased, adding that the album “felt like catching lightning in a bottle.”

‘Taylor Swift’
The musician promoted her debut album in 2006 by doing a radio tour of interviews in which she worked on getting her name out there.
‘Fearless’
Swift’s sophomore album, Fearless, which dropped in 2008, was promoted on several talk shows. In anticipation of its release, Swift released a new song every week on the iTunes Store in the five weeks before the album launched as part of the “Countdown to Fearless” promotion.
‘Speak Now’
In 2010, Swift revealed that her third album, Speak Now, would be coming out that fall via a live Ustream chat with fans.
‘Red’
Before releasing Red in 2012, Swift held a live webchat on Google Hangouts to share details about the album and her first single, “We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together,” from the record.
She also debuted the album cover for fans live in an intimate studio setting, telling her guests, “Behind this curtain, fabric situation, it’s a red [sheet], see it’s red. We’re really big into details. Do you like it?”
‘1989’
To announce the 2014 album, Swift hosted a Yahoo! Livestream, where she told fans and a studio audience — it was featured on ABC News — that the record was “so new.”
“I’ve never made these kind of changes before,” she teased, referring to her transition into the pop genre. “Having been born on December 13, 1989, this album is called, 1989.” Swift also unveiled the Polaroid-style cover, which was hanging behind her on the set before introducing “Shake It Off.”
Prior to the album release, Swift had her inaugural “Secret Sessions” event where she would hand pick fans to invite over to her home to listen to the album before it was released.
‘Reputation’
In 2017, Swift wiped her social media channels clean before posting a single video of a snake. She later announced the Reputation album via Instagram, and the snake has become synonymous with the record. Swift continued her “Secret Sessions” event for the highly anticipated album. ‘Lover’
Swift shared details about her 2019 album via an Instagram livestream. At the time, she revealed the release date for Lover, the cover art and dropped the single, “You Need to Calm Down.”
“The album is called, Lover, it’s coming out August 23. An easy way to remember that date is that August is the eighth month of the year. And then 23, two plus three, so you just add it all together,” she shared at the time, before trolling herself. “Eight plus two plus three equals I’m obnoxious. If you just want to remember that by, ‘Oh, it adds up to 13.’”
Swift added: “This album in tone, it’s very romantic. Not just simply thematically, like it’s all love songs. … You can find romance in loneliness, or sadness.”
Lover marked the last album where Swift held any “Secret Sessions” event for fans.
‘Folklore’
The first of two albums Swift released in 2020 was announced via social media. “[It’s] the eight album and it’s called Folklore,” the singer said in a clip, before revealing, “I wanted to show you a clip from the music video for the song ‘Cardigan.’ I hope you like it.”
Folklore was dropped immediately in full after Swift’s announcement.
‘Evermore’
“Good morning, America, it’s Taylor. I’m so excited to announce that at midnight tonight eastern, I’ll be releasing my brand-new album, Evermore,” Swift announced via a social media video in 2020. “It is the sister album to Folklore but it’s all new songs.”
She celebrated the reveal, adding, “I am absolutely elated to be able to share it with you tonight.”
‘Midnights’
The 2022 album was announced during the MTV Video Music Awards that August. While Swift accepted the award for Video of the Year for her “All Too Well (10 Minute Verison)” short film, she dropped the bombshell.
“I had sort of made up my mind that if you were gonna be this generous and give us this, I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand new album comes out October 21,” Swift told the crowd, thanking her fans for the constant support. “I will tell you more at midnight.”
Midnights was Swift’s first new album release amid her rerecords. After her former label, Big Machine, sold the masters of her first six albums to a third party, Swift began rerecording the albums one by one. Swift announced in May 2025 that she now owns her complete discography.
‘The Tortured Poets Department’
Swift broke the news of her 11th studio album while at the 2024 Grammy Awards. During her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album, she told her fans, “[The way I can celebrate] is by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the past two years, which is that my brand new album comes out April 19.”
She shared, “It’s called The Tortured Poets Department, and I’m going to go post the cover right now backstage.”
‘The Life of a Showgirl’
Swift announced The Life of a Showgirl on an August 2025 episode of the “New Heights” podcast. She unveiled the album cover, released the tracklist and shared details about the record, which will be released in October 2025.
“This album is about what was going on behind-the-scenes in my inner life during this tour which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant,” she told listeners, noting that she wrote and recorded the album while on her Eras Tour. “It comes from the most infectiously, joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in my life. So that effervescence has come through on this record. Like you said, bangers.”
Bonus: ‘Taylor’s Version’
Swift released four rerecorded albums before ultimately buying back her masters in summer 2024. The first rerecord, Fearless (Taylor’s Version), was announced via Good Morning America in April 2021. Red (Taylor’s Version) came next, which she revealed via social media in June 2021. While on her worldwide Eras Tour in May 2023, she announced that Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) would be the third rerecord. The announcement for 1989 (Taylor’s Version) came three months later, during her final U.S. Eras Tour date in August 2023.
