Chase Stokes went after country singer Morgan Evans via social media following his comments about their mutual ex, Kelsea Ballerini.
Evans appeared on Bobby Bones’ “The BobbyCast” podcast in March 2025, claiming that he was “not expecting” his divorce from Ballerini. (The two singers were married from 2017 to 2022.)
“It took me by surprise,” Evans recalled. “That whole time is such a blur. It almost feels like somebody else, just from where I’m sitting now.”
After a clip of Evans’ podcast appearance was shared via Instagram, Stokes branded the “Over for You” artist as “the most pathetic excuse of masculinity” in the comments section.
Stokes, an actor best known for his role on Outer Banks, dated Ballerini nearly one year after her divorce from Evans. The couple were together on and off until early 2026.

Morgan Evans Appears on Bobby Bones’ Podcast
Morgan Evans was a guest on Bobby Bones’ “The Bobbycast” show in March 2026, where he detailed his mindset after Kelsea Ballerini asked for a divorce.
“I definitely wasn’t [expecting it], and it took me by surprise,” Evans said. “But yeah, that whole time is such a blur. It almost feels like somebody else, just from where I’m sitting now. I just look back and I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ … Yeah, it was just kind of a whirlwind, life-changing moment.”
Evans also addressed the then-viral speculation about why his marriage ended, which Ballerini used as fodder for her Rolling Up the Welcome Mat EP.
“In my case, it didn’t feel like it necessarily had a lot to do with me,” Evans claimed. “I think maybe I was presented, or made out to be, or became an archetype for any guy that had done any woman wrong during that period of time. Like, some of the stuff was just, like, ‘What? What are you even talking about?’”

Chase Stokes responded to Morgan Evans’ interview with Bobby Bones via social media, slamming the country singer’s thoughts about his divorce from Kelsea Ballerini.
“This is about the most pathetic excuse of masculinity [I’ve] ever seen,” Stokes wrote via Instagram comment under a clip of the interview. “Get a f***ing life.”
Stokes ultimately deleted his comment without further addressing the message.
Bobby Bones Enters the Chat
Bobby Bones defended Morgan Evans in the hours after Chase Stokes deleted his comment.
“If you’re gonna come that hard then maybe don’t take it down. Also, nothing bad to say about this person,” Bones said in a March 2026 video shared via Instagram. “I’m sure he’s probably a good guy. Mostly, like, in my heart, I just wonder why certain people can talk about things and other people can’t.”
Morgan Evans’ Not-So-Subtle Response to Chase Stokes
It appeared Evans did not take Stokes’ comments to heart when posting a carousel of photos and videos via Instagram.
“Feeling pretty masculine today,” he captioned a March 2026 post. “Album out in 2 weeks!”
Evans was lifting a refrigerator above his head, looking under the hood of a car and chopping wood in the social media post. His Steel House album cover appeared in nearly all the images.
Bones continued to side with Evans, writing, “I laughed,” in the comments section.
Morgan Evans and Chase Stokes Were Both in Relationships With Kelsea Ballerini
Morgan Evans and Kelsea Ballerini were married from 2017 to 2022.
“I think when there’s a big life decision like that, it’s not a sudden one,” Ballerini said on CBS Mornings in October 2022 about what went wrong. “There’s a lot that happens before that becomes public. So, I’m on my, like, active healing journey. And a big part of that is showing up for this album and showing up for myself like I never have.”
She continued, “It’s not, like, volatile, it just didn’t work, and that sometimes is like a difficult narrative to get your head around when you’re like, ‘Oh, my gosh. This is a good person. And I’m a good person. And this is just no longer good anymore.’”
Ballerini moved on with Chase Stokes in January 2023, sliding into his Instagram DMs that eventually inspired her song “How Do I Do This?” Ballerini and Stokes dated on and off from 2023 to early 2026.
“Ever since [Kelsea and Chase] split the first few times, the dynamic totally shifted and it was never the same,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly in February 2026. “Something felt a little more off this time around, almost like they were forcing things again.”
According to the insider, Ballerini allegedly “didn’t fully trust” Stokes once they got back together at the end of 2025.
Ballerini also hasn’t addressed Stokes and Evans’ social media drama. Us reached out for comment.
