Captain Kerry has already heard from Below Deck guests Helen Hoey and husband Richard Fiore after investigating Kyle Stillie for allegedly false hookup rumors.
Kerry confirmed exclusively to Us Weekly at the DIRECTV’s Plot Twist party featuring Bravo at The Perch by Skylight atop PENN 2 in New York City on Tuesday, August 12, that he has been in touch with Helen and Richard, adding, “We’re actually doing a watch party at Hard Rock for Below Deck. And [their friend and fellow guest] Kelly has apologized to me. She thanked me for taking care of her. She told me she was in a bad headspace and she thanked me.”
Season 12 already had its fair share of drama when returning guests Helen and Richard led a charter that started with their friend being escorted off St. David by the authorities. The situation got even more messy when Kyle claimed he hooked up with Helen — in full view of the crew — during an excursion that had him holding the guest while she was topless in the water.
Kyle spread the rumor on the Monday, August 11, episode of the hit Bravo series. As soon as he realized it was going to get back to Kerry, Kyle told him he was just joking around about the alleged hookup. Viewers — and Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen — weren’t so sure after Kyle continued to laugh off the incident.
“I did a thorough investigation of what was going on and I had a chat with all the crew. It’s kind of weird that someone would make up a story like that and then go back on it,” Kerry acknowledged while speaking to Us on Tuesday at the New York event spotlighting DIRECTV’s MyEntertainment Genre Pack. “But I had no evidence that he did anything different.”
Kerry made it clear that Kyle’s job was on the line.
“The most important thing to me is if [even] one crew member would have believed his story, he’d be off the boat,” he added. “Making a story up like that is terrible — especially [if and when it] gets back to the guest or her husband.”
Kerry added: “I’ve been in that place where my partner hasn’t done the right thing. I know how I felt, so it did trigger me. But it took a lot for me to be the judge and be impartial.”
Kyle, for his part, said on Monday’s WWHL that he hasn’t heard from anyone involved. “I have not [heard from her] or the husband. I hope not to hear from them at all,” he admitted. “I am not worried [about hearing from Helen]. I am maybe a bit more worried [about the husband] but nothing happened, so I am sure Richard is a very understanding man.”
While watching Kyle’s behavior back, Kerry told Us he had no regrets about how he navigated the investigation.
“I still stand by my decision. There was no evidence to show any different. So I really had to go with what was in front of me,” he explained. “[But] what I thought of him and what he said he was doing — he disappointed me. … Kyle is a very good worker. His choices on what he does after work are maybe not the choices I would make. But at the end of the day, we’ll see some episodes coming up and more will be revealed.”
Kerry joked that Kyle was “full of s***” while filming season 12, adding, “He would make up a story like that, tell everybody and [take it] back. But when you watch the show, I don’t know if part of it was trying to make Solène [Favreau] jealous. Maybe that was part of it, him shooting off his mouth.”
Below Deck airs on Bravo Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
