Candice Swanepoel is just like Us.
The model, 36, exclusively opened up to Us Weekly about her time as a Victoria’s Secret Angel ahead of the brand’s star-studded fashion show in Brooklyn, New York, on Wednesday, October 15.
“For somebody that’s been [walking in the show] for so many years, I’m happy to still be here,” Swanepoel told Us, noting she made her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show debut in 2007. “To be here and representing the brand and representing femininity and [be] in my powerful feminine world, which we don’t always get to do.”
Swanepoel added, “Like today, we’re these powerful, gorgeous women, and in my day-to-day life, I don’t feel like that. It really represents, like, reminding myself of my power.”
The blonde bombshell also told Us that she still “always” feels “nervous” before hitting the runway. “I don’t think it ever goes away,” she admitted. “I always want to do my best, and each year I get more nervous, to be honest.” While she gets a bit of jitters leading up to her glamorous catwalk moment, Swanepoel highlighted that she is mostly “excited.”
“Just breathe through it and try to have fun,” she told Us, sharing her pre-show mantra.
As one of the brand’s longtime models, Swanepoel has seen it all — wings, thongs, corsets, bombshell blowouts, and of course, the Fantasy Bra.
“Opening the show in the Fantasy Bra is probably [my] top [favorite memory],” she told Us. Back in 2013, all eyes were on the supermodel when she strutted into the room wearing a $10 million bra and matching belt by Mouawad. According to the brand’s site, the bejeweled bra featured more than “5,400 gems, weighing over 1,540 carats combined.” The piece featured 234.04 carats of diamonds forming a sweetheart neckline, and yellow and blue sapphires “weighing respectively 717.89 and 116.86 carats.”
The gems were handset in an 18-karat yellow gold mold with a massive pear-shaped ruby dangling from the center, weighing at 52 carats.
Swanepoel made the look even more glamorous with white gloves, red velvet heels, and of course, a signature Angel voluminous blowout.
“I never thought I would have done my first show in the first place so each show is a gift,” Swanepoel gushed to Us.
The cover girl also shared that she keeps in close contact with the other Angels, and even has some spicy group chat names.
“We formed a sisterhood,” she said. “We’re always catching up with each other. through children and families and traveling, and we always see each other at jobs, but I think this is really one of the places we really get to catch up and be girly and help each other out [at the Victoria’s Secret Shows], because it’s a lot of pressure and everyone’s nervous.”
When it comes to their text convos, Swanepoel has one with the other mothers in the group named “Mamas” and a wild one called “B****, what the f***?”
