A brute sucker-slapped a 9-year-old girl in the face on a Queens street and bit the fingertip off an off-duty cop who stepped in to help after the senseless attack earlier this month, officials said.
Feliz Enrique, 31, walked up to the unsuspecting youngster as she was playing on a Glendale street, asked her name, then smacked her in the face without any warning, Queens DA Melissa Katz alleged in a release Thursday.
The child fell to the ground after the blow and was treated at a hospital after suffering “bruising to her arm and back, bleeding to her lip and arm, loose teeth as well as substantial pain,” the release said.
Video showed the unconscionable assault allegedly carried out by the Ridgewood resident the day before Mother’s Day, according to ABC7.
Off-duty NYPD Sgt. Sebastian Hajder saw the brazen daylight attack and sprang into action.
“A sergeant who was off-duty at the time did what good Samaritans do, but also did what good police officers do, is he followed the person, he approached him,” Katz told the outlet.
“As the off-duty officer struggled to detain him, Feliz Enrique bit the sergeant on his knee and hand, causing permanent disfigurement to the sergeant’s finger,” Katz said in her release.
Hajder’s fingertip could not be reattached despite receiving prompt medical attention, the statement added.
Enrique was arraigned Wednesday on charges of assault in the first, second and third degree, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment in the second degree.
At the time of the attack, he was on parole after spending seven years in prison for attempted murder, ABC reported.
Enrique faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted. He is next due in court on July 10.
