The police have officially charged the mother of the 6-year-old girl who was found dead in a bathtub at her Brooklyn home on Friday, according to the NYPD.
Karla Espinal, 26, was charged Saturday night with assault in the second degree, acting in a manner injurious to a child, and reckless endangerment, the NYPD tells The Post.
Espinal was taken into custody at her Highland Park home where her 6-year-old daughter was found submerged in a full bathtub with blood clots in her eyes indicating a struggle, sources told The Post.
The girl was pronounced dead Friday at Brookdale University Medical Center.
A friend of the victim’s father said the grieving dad suspected his daughter was murdered.
“He just sent me a message around like 4 o’clock telling me that someone murdered his daughter. He didn’t say who,” Emmanuel Pichardo told The Post.
Neighbors were at a loss to account for the death of a girl who seemingly was part of a loving family.
“I see that they are happy. I see the mother loved the girl… and [the father] is a nice guy,” nextdoor neighbor Gina Khau told The Post.
Khau further tells The Post that hours before the child’s death, the 73-year-old Khau heard “someone screaming” at about 4 a.m.
Vincent Abad, another neighbor, said the girl was “happy, happy all time,” and was regularly seen with her parents.
