A woman being labeled a ‘bridezilla’ online has sparked debate after sharing a lengthy dress code with her wedding guests.

One guest, who is married to the groom’s cousin, took to social media to ask for help about what to wear after realizing the outfit she wanted to wear didn’t fit the approved guidelines.

“Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can find a plus size dress that falls into this category of color?“ the woman asked.

“I already had a dress in mind but it’s one of the restricted colors and I have about a month to find a new one. I’ve never been to a wedding that has a color list you can’t wear.”

On the invitation, strict guidelines outlined what guests were allowed to wear, in particular, the colors that were off-limits.

“For wedding attire, we kindly ask our guests to avoid wearing the following colors: black, white, ivory, red, gold, champagne, teal, and orange. No jeans or hoodies allowed,” the invite read.

“Appropriate attire pallet: deep forest greens, olive green, mauve, navy blue, and earthy neutrals. Any inappropriate attire will be asked to leave and escorted off the property.”

The threatening wording divided commenters, with many calling the bride’s move “controlling” and “disrespectful”.

“Your wedding is not that important. Nobody cares about the colors and you aren’t even going to look at the pictures as much as you think you are. Stop being so awful to guests over something so trivial,” one user slammed.

Others pointed out how exclusionary the demand was, given how hard it was already to find plus size dresses.

“Because shopping for a dress as a plus size woman isn’t hard enough, now she has to follow color restrictions? Straight size people have no idea how difficult it is to find something specific like that. My heart goes out to the guest,” one person wrote.

Others shared similar horror stories, including one bride who asked all guests to arrive in blues, pinks and lavender and ensure their dresses were formal, for a farm.

Meanwhile, others argued that if a bride had such lengthy demands, they should cover the cost of guests buying new outfits.

“If you want to have a dress code this strict, you should be prepared to pay for new attire for your guests to fit your photoshoot,” said one.

Some claimed the bride was likely “social media obsessed” and reflected a growing number of people “doing it for the ‘gram”.

One wrote: “Alienating your guests for maybe one photo where the crowd looks co-ordinated is weird. No one is going to remember your Instagram post, but they will remember being threatened with removal over what color they wore”.

And some said they had little issue with bride’s suggesting a dress code, but the threatening tone of the last line took it too far.

“That last sentence is over the top,” claimed one. “I wouldn’t want to be friends with someone who treats people that way”.
