When you try your best but you don’t succeed.

On Aug. 12, TikTok user @k_bug68 shared her experience ordering a custom birthday cake from a Giant Eagle supermarket for a co-worker.

The request was simply to write “Happy Birthday Steve” on the cake, and the result elicited laughter around the internet.

“The kid behind the counter said ‘I’m sorry, I did my best,’” the user wrote on the video, which has garnered 13 million views and 1.8 million likes.

She then revealed the cake, which read “Happy Birthday Steve” off-center in scribbled handwriting, almost like a little kid did it.

Even with the child-like icing job, the user made the most of it.

“Luckily, this is for an office full of adult children,” she wrote on screen with the pinched fingers emoji to express that it was “chef’s kiss” perfection for the intended audience.

In the caption, she explained that the boy behind the counter “looked terrified to hand it to me cause for just about anyone else he’d of ruined a $30 cake.”

“Everyone has to learn, but maybe they could have them practice on things that are not cakes,” she added.

The video quickly went viral, and users loved it just as much as the woman who bought the cake.

“I love this so much. Five stars, no notes,” a commenter said.

“I would actually prefer this, it’s sooo funny,” one person wrote.

“It’s perfect. It’s almost ironically comical,” another added.

“This is all of our first times being alive bro,” someone said with the crying emoji.

“I would be pumped if this was a work cake. We’d never stop talking about it,” a user shared.

“The way I would cry from how adorable that is,” someone admitted.

“That is the most Steve cake I’ve ever seen. I showed my husband Steve and he thinks it’s perfect for a fellow Steve. Happy birthday, Steve,” one person quipped.

“If Steve doesn’t like it, we don’t like Steve,” another wrote.

One user noted that the kid was probably “left there by himself and got stuck with a job he had never done before.”

The original poster replied, “I think you are right — I could practically read his thoughts saying ‘don’t walk up here’ as I approached the counter.”

Meanwhile, Giant Eagle told TODAY.com that they are grateful the customer “received the cake in such a positive fashion.”

“First and foremost, we appreciate our bakery Team Member who took initiative and made his best effort to create a memorable happy birthday message for Steve,” a spokesperson for the supermarket chain told the outlet.

“We want every cake from the Giant Eagle bakery to look and taste great, and we are using this as an opportunity to make sure all our bakery Team Members have the training needed to make every occasion special.”

In the comment section, the customer wrote that she “can’t wait to go back and show him” the response to his cake.

She also wrote that her office usually has a birthday celebration every month, and she’s going to ask for him in the future.
