Bachelor in Paradise season 10 contestant Gary Levingston is shedding light on his date with Nancy Hulkower after speculation that they were under the influence.

“Let me set the record straight, please,” Gary, 66, exclusively told Us Weekly at iHeartRadio and Vrbo’s Pickleball Tournament. “There were no narcotics. There were no drugs. There was no marijuana. There were no gummies. There was nothing that went into this temple of mine that is of anything other than some raw chocolate, which was cacao, I guess they call it.”

After Nancy arrived at the beaches of Costa Rica, she asked Gary to accompany her on an intimate date where they drank cacao — and appeared to be enjoying themselves. When they came back from their date, the show joked that Gary was “still tripping balls” during a confessional.

“It was funny watching it back,” Gary said. “And it’s interesting how you can take a scene or a situation and turn it into something and sensationalize [it]. So that’s what that was.”

Gary has been a hot commodity since entering the beach, previously going on a date with Gerry Turner’s runner-up Leslie Fhima. During the rose ceremony, however, Natascha Hardee gave Gary a rose. For Gary, the attention has been “very flattering” and “also very humbling.”

“I had no idea the impact that just being a nice guy would have on relationships,” he said. “I’m humbled by the whole thing, but it’s easy when you’re just being who you are. I like to inspire and motivate people. I don’t know if that’s what’s coming out or I can’t explain that.”

Gary noted that there are “a lot of amazing women” on the show, before gushing that his and Leslie’s salsa dancing date was “very special.”

“It was almost mystical, even when the rain started coming and we were dancing in the rain. That’s the kind of thing that doesn’t happen like that,” he said. “So it was special in that way. She’s an amazing mother, grandmother, person. Her character is just fabulous, and being able to spend a little time with her made me want to spend more time with her. She’s special. She’s a special person.”

While Gary’s lips are sealed on whether or not he finds love on the show, he gushed that the relationships he’s developed have been “magical.”

“It’s truly a blessing to have been part of that, with what they have allowed me to do, and in the process of being selected by them and some of the women, it’s just very humbling,” he said. “I wouldn’t trade it in for the world.”

Bachelor in Paradise airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m.
