Bethenny Frankel Discusses ‘Torture’ of Nancy Guthrie Case After Savannah Interview: ‘Pure Evil’

Bethenny Frankel is sharing her honest thoughts after watching Savannah Guthrie’s Today show interview with Hoda Kotb regarding the disappearance of her mother.

“I just saw a clip of Savannah Guthrie and Hoda. I love Hoda. I’ve known her for years. I love Savannah. She’s such a professional. She’s such a nice person, she’s no BS. No flash, no superficiality. They are both real ones,” Frankel, 55, said in a Thursday, March 26, Instagram video.

She continued, “They were talking about Savannah’s mother, and, yeah, for a minute, I forgot about Savannah’s mother. I think about it every once in a while. I thought about it the other day in the bathtub for some reason — not for some reason, because it’s insane and horrifying. But like, she said, ‘We are in agony.’ It was the most vulnerable interview I’ve ever seen.”

Frankel went on to recall someone telling her in the past that the “second best answer is no,” noting that not having a clear resolution is “the worst.”

“It sounds like the worst possible agony in the world,” Frankel said. “It’s the limbo of it all. The lack of closure. The unknown. Like, what the hell? It is so tragic. I feel so badly for her. It is so sad.”

She continued, “You are always your mom’s baby. You know what I mean? It’s still your mommy, right? No matter how old you are. It’s almost like she’s regressing to a little girl because she misses her mommy. She wants to know what happened. It is just actual sheer torture. It is pure evil. I feel so badly.”

Frankel shared that she was watching Kotb’s face, recalling that the former Today coanchor is “close to her mom” too.

“Just a brutal story,” Frankel concluded. “I’m really sorry. I’m really deeply sorry. And I’m sorry I don’t think about it more often and keep her in my thoughts, in my heart.”

In text over the video, Frankel wrote, “Poor Savannah.” She added in the caption, “I am so sorry #savannahguthrie #hodakotb #tragic #nancyguthrie @todayshow.”

News broke in February that Nancy Guthrie had been reported missing by a family member who called 911. Nearly two months later, Savannah, 54, sat down with Kotb, 61, for her first interview following Nancy’s disappearance and recalled a conversation with brother Camron Guthrie over a possible motive. (Nancy, 84, is also the mom of daughter Annie Guthrie, whom she shared with late husband Charles Guthrie.)

“I said, ‘Do you think [it was] because of me?’ And he said, ‘I’m sorry, sweetie, but yeah, maybe,’” Savannah said, becoming emotional. “But I knew that. I hope not. I mean, we still don’t know. Honestly, we don’t know anything. We don’t know anything. So, I don’t know that it’s because she’s my mom and somebody thought, ‘Oh, that girl, that lady has money. We can make a quick buck.’ That would make sense, but we don’t know.”

Savannah shared that “it’s just too much to bear to think that I brought this to her bedside” as she and Kotb both got emotional.

“I have to say, ‘I’m so sorry, Mommy. I’m so sorry.’ I’m sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids and my nephew and Tommy, my brother-in-law,” Savannah said. “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry. If it is me, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.”
