A Sacramento elementary school counselor charged earlier this year with sexually abusing children has earned about $70,000 while on paid leave and remains employed by the local school after being arrested for the disgusting crimes.

Sacramento cops collared Wonyoung Kim, 36, in February 2025 after a five-month investigation, according to the Sacramento Sheriff’s department. Kim was arrested on 10 counts of child sex abuse with minors under age 14 — including two counts of child sex abuse with force.

Police say Kim abused two girls during counseling sessions at Charles Peck Elementary School, in suburban Carmichael, where he worked as a counselor.

Despite the horrifying charges, Kim has remined on paid leave with the district since cops began their probe in Sept. 2024, and remains an employee with the San Juan Unified School District, where he has worked since 2020, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Kim was slapped with a civil suit filed this month in Sacramento Superior Court that alleges one of his victims was a student at Charles Peck.

The shocking suit alleges Kim abused the girl on multiple occasions while she was ten and 11 years old, and made her sit on his lap in a closed office, according to the Bee. Furthermore, the suit says school staff failed to take action after Kim’s alleged abuses were reported, the Bee reports.

An attorney representing Kim didn’t respond to calls for comment by the Bee.

Cops were tipped off to Kim’s alleged sickening behavior in Sept. 2024, after an incident with a minor at Bayside Church in Roseville, where he was was a youth group leader, according to the Sacramento Sheriff’s office.

Police say Kim was possibly employed at several schools in southern California as well as a Sacramento Korean language and cultural school. Detectives think there may be other unreported victims, since Kim is known to have had access to other children through his positions at work and in the community.

Kim is currently in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he is ineligible for bail. His criminal trial is set to begin April 13.
