Beverley Mitchell is fully embracing being a good friend rather than the “fun” one.

“So this year is about discovery for me,” the 7th Heaven, 44, star said in an Instagram Reel uploaded on Monday, January 5. “And one of the things that I have always struggled with is that I am the friend that doesn’t get invited to the fun things.”

Mitchell continued, “I’m not the fun friend. I am not the friend that you wanna take on vacation or go out with your girls or be in a big group for a really long time.”

The actress confessed she used to get “really upset” about not being “invited to something” but a “very wise” friend gave her a new perspective.

“She said, ‘Are you comfortable in groups?’ and I said, ‘No, not particularly, I like one-on-one attention.’ She goes, ‘So how about the fact that maybe your friend knew that you weren’t comfortable in that situation and didn’t want to put you in that position because she knows you’re uncomfortable? Because she knows that you like one-on-one conversations,” she reflected. “I’m not good at small talk. I like to get deep. I like to really know what’s going on in someone’s life.”

Mitchell explained she thrives as a friend when she has a “deep connection” with that person.

“That is the friend that I am. That is how I show up best for my friends. When I can truly peel back those onion layers,” she shared. “So this year I am fully embracing how I show up for my friends and what type of friend I am. I’m the friend that you call when stuff gets sticky; I’m a friend that you call when things go south. I’m the friend that you call when you’re trying to work through something. We all need those kind of friends.”

While coming to terms with not being the “fun and funny friend,” Mitchell admitted she was “proud” to be “the friend that shows up.

“I am also the girl that doesn’t have a gazillion friends and that’s OK too,” she said. “I think this year is about embracing the things that we are and let go of all of the things that were not.”

Mitchell’s heartfelt video resonated with fans and they shared they’ve gone through similar situations.

“Loving the authenticity. As I get older I realize how awesome it is to be comfortable with yourself and only have those few real friends. Keep sharing ✨🤍,” one user wrote in the comments section.

Mitchell replied, “Should we just make this a thing? Honest talk.”

Another fan told Mitchell that her message was something she “needed to hear.”

“I feel this so deeply and have never heard another person say it. ❤️❤️❤️,” she confessed to which Mitchell responded, “I am so glad! That’s why I felt compelled to share!”

Mitchell is best known for her starring role on 7th Heaven as Lucy Camden. The WB show ran for 11 seasons from 1996 to 2006. She later appeared on The Secret Life of the American Teenager and in several holiday movies.
