We love Netflix, but sometimes it feels like the platform shows us the same 15 series in our queue every single day.
Variety is the spice of life, so the Watch With Us team sifts through the streamer’s catalog to find underrated shows that deserve more attention.
In September 2025, we’re recommending a pirate drama, a family comedy and a clever crime series that could all use a little more love.
Check out our picks now — your next binge might be hiding in plain sight.
‘Black Sails’ (2014-2017)
There’s something about pirates that just gets our hearts pumping. If you’ve seen all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and laughed hysterically at Our Flag Means Death, you may be yearning for some more swashbuckling content. If that’s the case, we highly recommend Black Sails.
Imagined as a prequel to the classic novel Treasure Island, this Starz period drama combines literary references with real-life historical figures during the Golden Age of Piracy in the West Indies. Starring Toby Stephens as James McGraw, who would eventually become Captain Flint, this seafaring adventure combines action with character development and stunning production design.
‘Kim’s Convenience’ (2016-2021)
This wholesome Canadian-Korean comedy series was the breakout role for Simu Liu — that was enough to get us watching, but if you need a little more convincing, you should know that it’s also extremely charming and funny.
Kim’s Convenience follows the Kim family — parents “Appa” (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) and “Umma” (Jean Yoon), who run a small store with their dutiful daughter Janet (Andrea Bang) and are estranged from their older son Jung (Liu). Korean and Canadian cultures clash with hilarious results. No matter your background, you’ll see yourself somewhere in this family.
‘In the Dark’ (2019-2022)
This mystery crime series from The CW follows Murphy Mason (Perry Mattfeld), a sarcastic and self-destructive blind woman whose only friends are her roommate Jess (Brooke Markham) and a teenager, Tyson, (Thamela Mpumlwana) who once saved her life.
When Tyson is murdered and the police seem useless, Murphy takes it upon herself to solve the case. Surprisingly funny for such a dark premise, In the Dark is an irreverent and gritty murder mystery with its fair share of soapy, sexy drama.
