There are some months when it’s hard to find a movie on Netflix with over 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Not this month, though. In September, Netflix added eight movies that hit that score on RT, including some genuine classics.
The Watch With Us team has narrowed those selections down to the three new Netflix movies with at least 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes that you need to watch this month.
Our picks include a coming-of-age drama, a film that used to be the No. 1 highest-grossing movie and a romance that can melt your heart.
‘Boyz n the Hood’ (1991)
Rotten Tomatoes rank: 96 percent
The late John Singleton made a directorial debut for the ages with the Oscar-nominated Boyz n the Hood. This was also the film debut for Ice Cube, who plays Darrin “Doughboy” Baker. The story revolves around Doughboy and his friends, Jason “Tre” Styles, III (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Chris Brown (Redge Green), as well as Doughboy’s half-brother, Ricky Baker (Morris Chestnut).
Thanks to the guidance of his father, Jason “Furious” Styles, Jr. (Laurence Fishburne), Tre has the opportunity to escape his downtrodden neighborhood and go to college. Ricky may also get out thanks to his athletic ability. However, Doughboy has embraced gang life, and the consequences of his actions will come back to haunt his circle of friends.

‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’ (1982)
Rotten Tomatoes rank: 99 percent
Scoring 99 percent on Rotten Tomatoes is almost impossible, but E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial really is that good. Director Steven Spielberg was just starting to hit his peak as a filmmaker, and contemporary audiences loved E.T. (voiced by Pat Welsh), who was brought to life by animatronics, puppetry and other special effects.
After being accidentally left behind on Earth by his companions, E.T. meets and befriends a 10-year-old boy named Elliott Taylor (Henry Thomas), who lets his younger sister, Gertie (Drew Barrymore), and their older brother, Michael (Robert MacNaughton), in on the secret. As the children bond with E.T., government agents search their town for the alien. E.T.’s psychic connection with Elliott may also prove to be fatal for both of them when the former becomes deathly ill.

‘LA LA Land’ (2016)
Rotten Tomatoes rank: 91 percent
So what if LA LA Land didn’t win Best Picture at the Oscars after one of the most famous snafus in awards history? It’s still an all-time great musical romance, and it brought home Oscars for director Damien Chazelle and lead actress Emma Stone. Ryan Gosling and Stone star as Sebastian “Seb” Wilder and Amelia “Mia” Dolan, a struggling musician and actress, respectively.
Mia and Seb meet each other at a moment in their lives when their dreams just aren’t working out for them. They bring out some of the best in each other, and there’s real love between them. But their relationship may not survive the immense pressure that they are putting on themselves to pursue their ambitions.
