Three young boys were kidnapped by a carjacker in California and taken on a wild chase that ended in a life-threatening crash in Malibu — after their mom left her car running in a 7-Eleven parking lot.
Mom Tersa Tax had just left her three sons, all under age 10, outside the store in East Los Angeles Friday afternoon when the crazed crook jumped behind the wheel and hit the gas, she told CBS News Los Angeles.
“You blink and you see a stranger in the car with your kids,” Tax recalled. “Your kids are crying and desperate for their mom… they’re afraid and you just see someone run away with them.”
The boys’ panicked father, who was parked next to their vehicle, tried to stop the suspect from taking off but was dragged behind the car, suffering chest injuries.
The suspect then led law enforcement on a high-speed car chase before smashing into another car — seriously injuring all three boys — in the ritzy seaside enclave of Malibu.
The carjacker, who hasn’t been identified, then bolted on foot through a wooded area and was ultimately taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol.
Tax’s 7-year-old boy suffered a dislocated hip from the crash impact, her 9-year-old had a minor concussion and her 2-year-old was left with a bruised stomach, according to abc7.com
All three boys had been released from UCLA Children’s Hospital as of Sunday, the station reported.
“We never imagined all of this would happen to us,” the boys’ father, who was not identified, told the outlet.
